Sponsor-A-Mile Raises $44k, Awareness of SMA
June - July 2009
| GSF launched Sponsor-A-Mile in June 2009 as a way to raise funding to help cure SMA and national awareness of SMA. Bill, Victoria, and Gwendolyn traveled nearly 5,000 miles round-trip in an RV from Santa Barbara, CA to Vicksburg, MS to unite Gwendolyn with her 104-year-old great grandfather, Harry Gillespie. Their goal was to raise $50,000 by having supporters sponsor each of Gwendolyn’s 5,000 miles at $10 per mile. When all was said and done, the Strongs raised more than $44,000 from 466 supporters and increased SMA awareness through numerous press opportunities along their journey. |
